“Women in Cold Water Surfing: A New Surfing World Defined by Women”

For my Master’s thesis I created an immersive article on women in cold water surf culture across the US, UK, and Ireland. Listen to a professional Irish surfer, a surf film maker, founders of an all women’s surf magazine, the More Women+ Surf collective in Maine and many more talk about the ins and outs of what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated space. I feature my own original photography, videos and exclusive interviews.

  • The West’s Response To Ukraine Exposes Deep Bias In International Refugee Aid

In 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine, many Western countries issued unprecedented refugee aid policies. As needed as these policies were in the face of an undeniably brutal war, they were offered uncharacteristically. In this article I analyze the complex interwoven factors, ceded in structures of racism and other biases, which lead to these aid policies being issued. This article was part of my work at the OWP.

This was part of my work at the OWP.

In this article, I analyze the factors that have contributed to this multinational trend. This featured in the UCD College Tribune, the leading paper at UCD.

  • Drones v. Deforestation: The Amazon’s Indigenous Communities Fight Back

Indigenous leaders from Ecuador and other surrounding Amazonian nations gather at the COICA — Co-ordinator of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon River Basin — conference demanding “No to mining, No to extraction”. These are the two leading causes of deforestation of the Amazon, along with agriculture which together has lead to over 4.9 million acres of deforestation since the 1990’s in Ecuador alone. Read more about about how Indigenous groups are increasingly taking measures into their own hands to fight back against this crisis. This article was written as part of my work at the OWP.

  • What Will The Aftermath Of Hurricane Ian Look Like In Cuba, And Will The U.S. Play A Role?

Protests erupted across the city of Havana following widespread devastation from hurricane Ian, only further exposing the fragility of Cuba’s crumbling public infrastructure. With power remaining unrestored in large portions of the island, continuing food shortages and limited medical resources, Cuba made a rare request to the United States for humanitarian aid.
